Aircon Repairs in Northcliff
Northcliff's big homes on the slopes of the ridge come with steep stands, long pipe runs and outdoor units in hard-to-reach spots. ARS carries out aircon repairs in Northcliff on site, plus servicing, regassing and new installations.
Northcliff, in Region B of the City of Johannesburg, is built around Northcliff Ridge. At 1,807 metres, Northcliff Hill is the second-highest point in Johannesburg, and many of the large, low-density homes on its slopes look out to the north and the south. Fairland, Blackheath and Cresta border the suburb, Beyers Naudé Drive links it to the West Rand, and it's covered from our Randburg service area.
Most repair calls here are residential, though not every property is the same:

Aircon Repairs in Northcliff: Common Faults
Not cooling or blowing warm air
Dirty filters, a clogged outdoor coil, a failed capacitor or a refrigerant leak are the usual suspects. Large rooms with big view windows add heat load, so a unit that's borderline in size shows its weakness first. Our repair service covers all makes and models.
Low on gas
Refrigerant doesn't get used up. Long pipe runs on sloping stands mean more joints, and every joint is a possible leak point. We find and fix the leak before regassing, otherwise the gas simply escapes again.
Dead after a storm
Highveld thunderstorms bring lightning and power dips, and electricity returning after load shedding can spike too. A dead display or a unit that won't respond often points to a damaged control board. For urgent faults, emergency call-outs run 24/7.
Heat mode not working
Johannesburg is cooler than Pretoria and its winter nights are cold, so a reverse-cycle unit that won't heat is a real problem in June. A service in autumn is a good time to test both modes.

Quick Checks Before You Book a Repair
A few faults have simple causes you can rule out before booking aircon repairs in Northcliff. None of these involve opening the unit.
- Check the remote and mode. Fit fresh batteries and make sure it's set to cool (the snowflake), not fan, dry or heat.
- Look at the breaker and isolator. If the aircon breaker has tripped, reset it once. If it trips again, leave it off: our guide to an aircon that keeps tripping the breaker explains why.
- Pull out the filters. Clogged filters cause weak airflow and iced coils. Rinse them in cool water, let them dry and refit.
- Check the outdoor unit. Leaves, garden debris or a cover left on stop it shedding heat. See whether the fan turns.
- Note any error code. Write down the code or flashing-light pattern; it helps the technician narrow down the fault.
- Water dripping indoors? Switch the unit off and put a container underneath until it can be checked.
Still not right? If your unit is showing any of these signs, book a repair visit or call 0861 995 092. We also work in nearby Weltevredenpark and Rosebank.
Working on Steep Ridge Properties
Reaching the outdoor unit
On a sloping stand the condenser often ends up high on a wall above a drop, or tucked under a deck. Repairs there need safe access, and it helps to tell us before the visit if a tall ladder or extra care will be needed.
Long pipe runs
To keep units off the view side of the house, pipe runs can get long. That's fine when planned, but it affects the refrigerant charge and gives more places for a slow leak to hide.
Old units on big houses
Some larger homes still run older splits. If a repair involves the compressor or a major leak on an R22 system, replacing it can make more sense, and we'll explain the trade-off before any work starts.
Under warranty?
If the unit is still covered, check your warranty terms first, as in-warranty repairs may need to go through the manufacturer's appointed service agent.
