So if you have an older unit, a less common brand or a system that came with the house and you're not sure what it is, get in touch anyway. A photo of the rating plate on the side of the indoor or outdoor unit helps us check the model and refrigerant type before we arrive. You can send it with your quote request.
Most of the work is the same on every make. These are the details that do differ, and why we ask for the brand and model when you call.
Each manufacturer uses its own fault codes, and the same code can mean different things on different brands. Note what the display shows before switching the unit off.
Older units may run on R22, while newer ones typically use R410A or R32. The rating plate shows which, and refrigerants must never be mixed. Our guide to aircon refrigerants explains the differences.
Control boards, sensors and fan motors are often brand and model specific. Knowing the model up front helps when a part has to be sourced for a repair.
