Emergency Aircon Repairs, Day or Night
Some aircon failures can't wait until Monday. ARS takes emergency aircon repairs call-outs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends and public holidays, anywhere in Gauteng.
Make It Safe While You Wait
A few minutes of the right action protects your property, your people and the unit itself.
- Switch off at the isolator. Use the isolator switch near the outdoor unit, or the aircon's breaker at the DB board. The remote alone leaves the unit powered.
- Stop resetting a tripping breaker. If it has tripped more than once, leave it off. Each reset pushes current back into whatever has failed and can turn a repairable fault into a burnt-out motor or compressor.
- Catch the water. Put a bucket or towels under a dripping unit. If water is coming through a ceiling near light fittings, switch that lighting circuit off at the DB as well.
- Smell burning? Keep it off. Don't switch the unit back on to "see if it does it again". If there is smoke or flame, get everyone out and call the fire department first.
- Keep people cool another way. Move children, older family members or anyone unwell to the coolest room, keep curtains closed on the sunny side and keep drinking water close by.
Most aircon faults are frustrating rather than urgent. A bedroom unit that stops on a Saturday afternoon can usually wait for a normal aircon repair booking without real harm. But some failures put equipment, stock, health or the building itself at risk, and for those, waiting is the expensive option.
That's what the emergency line is for. Call 0861 995 092 at any hour, describe what's happening, and we'll talk you through making it safe while a technician is arranged.
When Emergency Aircon Repairs Make Sense
Rooms that depend on cooling
Server rooms and comms cupboards are the classic case. Servers, switches and UPS batteries produce a steady stream of heat, and in a small closed room the temperature can climb quickly once the aircon stops. If you have a second unit, make sure it's running, and ask your IT support which non-essential equipment can be shut down safely. Our article on cooling a small server room covers how to build in a backup for next time.
Medical and dental rooms, pharmacies and anywhere temperature matters to patients or stock belong in the same category.
Restaurants and busy kitchens
A dining room or kitchen without air conditioning on a 33-degree day isn't just uncomfortable: staff struggle to work safely and customers leave. For a restaurant, a lost evening's trade can easily outweigh the cost of an after-hours call-out.
Heatwaves with vulnerable people at home
When temperatures spike, a failed unit in a home with a newborn, an elderly parent or someone who is ill is a genuine priority. If anyone shows signs of heat illness, such as confusion, dizziness, vomiting or a very high temperature, get medical help first and deal with the aircon second.
Water pouring through a ceiling
Cassette and ducted units live in the ceiling void. When the drain blocks or a condensate pump fails, water can soak the ceiling boards and reach light fittings before anyone notices. Switch the unit off, catch what you can and call.
Burning smells, sparks or a unit that won't stop tripping
Any smell of hot plastic or scorching from the indoor unit, outdoor unit or isolator points to an electrical fault. Leave it switched off and treat it as urgent. A breaker that trips every time the unit starts is in the same category, and our guide on why an aircon keeps tripping the breaker explains the usual culprits.

Have These Details Ready When You Call
- Address and access. The full address, any gate or security codes, and where the units are: ground level, high bracket, roof or ceiling.
- What's happening. Not cooling, leaking, tripping, smoking, making a noise, and when it started.
- The unit. Brand, model, type (wall split, cassette, ducted, floor-standing) and approximate age. A photo of the rating plate on the outdoor unit helps.
- Any error code. Write down exactly what the display shows or how the light blinks.
- What came before. A storm, load shedding, a power dip, building work or a recent service.
- Who will be on site. A name and number for whoever can let the technician in.
The clearer the picture on the phone, the better the chance of bringing what's needed on the first trip. If it's not an emergency, you can also send us a repair request online and we'll come back to you.
Fewer Emergencies Next Summer
A lot of the emergencies we hear about follow a familiar pattern: a clogged drain that finally overflows, a dirty condenser that trips on high pressure in a heatwave, or a capacitor that's been weakening for months. Regular servicing catches most of these. For businesses with several units, an aircon maintenance plan is a practical way to keep the need for emergency aircon repairs, and the 2am phone calls, rare.
We take emergency calls from across Gauteng, including Johannesburg, Soweto and Vereeniging.
Emergency Call-Out Questions
Yes. Emergency call-outs are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends and public holidays, across Gauteng.
A slow drip into a bucket can usually wait for a normal booking. Water coming through a ceiling, running down a wall onto plug points or reaching light fittings should be treated as urgent. Switch the unit off either way.
The first goal is to make the unit safe and find the cause. If a part has to be ordered, you will know exactly what is needed, and the repair is completed once it is sourced.
