Midea Aircon Repairs in Gauteng

When a Midea split stops cooling, starts leaking or won't switch on, ARS provides Midea aircon repairs at your home or workplace anywhere in Gauteng. We service Midea units too, and install new ones where a replacement makes more sense.

Who makes Midea

Midea Group is a large Chinese manufacturer founded in 1968 and headquartered in Foshan, in Guangdong province. Air conditioners are one of its core businesses, alongside fridges, washing machines and a long list of smaller household appliances.

Midea splits are among the many makes we work on in Gauteng, in bedrooms, flats and townhouses as well as small offices, and our aircon repairs service covers them on the same terms as any other brand. ARS is independent: we are not a Midea agent or dealer, and we don't sell on behalf of the brand.

Midea units we repair, service and install

Wall-mounted splits

Both fixed-speed models, which switch the compressor fully on and off, and inverter models, which slow it down and speed it up to hold the temperature. The diagnosis differs between the two, so we check which one you have first.

Cassette and ducted units

Ceiling-mounted cassettes and concealed ducted units in shops, offices and larger homes, where access and drainage need a bit more planning.

Heating mode

Reverse-cycle Midea splits that cool well but have stopped producing warm air, usually noticed on the first cold evening in May.

Midea aircon repairs: problems worth calling about

  • Running but not cooling. Often blocked filters or a dirty coil; sometimes low refrigerant from a leak, which has to be found before a regas makes sense.
  • Water running down the wall. A blocked drain, a dirty drip tray or a head that was mounted slightly off level.
  • Dead after a storm or power cut. Control boards and sensors are vulnerable to surges and lightning, especially in summer.
  • Ice on the pipes or coil. Poor airflow or low gas can freeze the coil. Our guide to aircon freezing up explains why.
  • Grinding, buzzing or rattling. Fan motors, loose panels or debris in the outdoor fan.

If the display is showing a code, jot it down for us. On site we read it, test the relevant parts and explain the fix before any work starts. You can request a repair online or phone 0861 995 092.

We fix the fault and run the unit to check it is cooling or heating properly.

Midea warranty: what to check first

Still under warranty? Look at the manufacturer's warranty terms before you book any repair. In-warranty work may need to go through Midea's appointed service agent. Once warranty is no longer a factor, Midea aircon repairs are something we handle regularly, and we can service your unit wherever the terms allow.

Repair or replace an older Midea?

On a newer split, Midea aircon repairs such as a fan motor or a cleared drain are usually well worth doing. An older unit that needs a compressor, or one that runs on R22 refrigerant, deserves a frank conversation about replacing it instead. Our article on repairing or replacing an old aircon sets out the questions to ask. If you are comparing brands for a new unit, have a look at our LG page too.

Simple habits

Looking after a Midea split between services

A yearly professional service handles the deep cleaning and checks. These habits keep things in good order the rest of the time.

  • Wash the filters regularly. Every few weeks in summer. Rinse with plain water, dry in the shade, and never run the unit without them.
  • Set a sensible temperature. Very low set points make the unit run flat out without cooling the room any faster.
  • Keep the condenser clear. Leave space around the outdoor unit and keep garden waste and stored boxes away from it.
  • Be kind to the electronics. Switch off ahead of outages and wait a few minutes after the power returns before turning it back on.
  • Notice small changes early. A new noise, a musty smell or a drip is cheaper to sort out now than after a full breakdown.
