ARS Air Conditioning handles aircon installation and repairs in Gauteng for houses, complexes, offices, shops and industrial sites. We work on all makes and models, carry out repairs on site, and take emergency call-outs 24/7, weekends and public holidays included.
ARS Air Conditioning installs, repairs, services and regasses air conditioners throughout Gauteng. The work ranges from a single bedroom split in a townhouse to rows of units at offices, shops, warehouses and factories.
Most aircon trouble comes down to something specific: a clogged filter, a refrigerant leak, a failed fan motor, a control board damaged by a power surge, or a unit that was too small for the room from day one. We find that cause, explain it in plain language, and fix it at your premises, whatever the make or model.
From a new split in a bedroom to planned maintenance on an office block, these are the jobs we handle every week. Homeowners will find more detail on our residential air conditioning page.

24/7 emergency aircon repairsNo inflated claims. This is simply how we go about every job, from a dripping bedroom unit to a plant room.
You get an explanation of what's actually wrong and what fixing it involves before work starts, so you decide with the facts in front of you.
Samsung, LG, Daikin, Midea, Carrier and most other brands, in wall split, cassette, ducted and floor-standing formats.
Faults are diagnosed and repaired on site, at your home or business, instead of the unit being taken away to a workshop.
Room size, ceiling height, afternoon sun, insulation and how the space is used all count before we recommend a unit. Floor area alone isn't enough.
Piping and trunking are kept tidy, joints are pressure tested, and the system is vacuumed to remove air and moisture before it's switched on.
The same company can look after the split in your study and the units at your office or factory, which keeps things simple when something needs attention.
Repair, service or brand-new installation, the steps stay clear and predictable.
Describe the symptoms, the brand and any error code on the display. Photos of the indoor and outdoor units help too.
We check the unit, pressures and electrical supply. For new installations we measure up and plan where both units and the piping will go.
You receive a quote that explains the work and any parts needed. There's no obligation to go ahead.
The work is done at your premises. New systems are pressure tested and vacuumed before the refrigerant is released.
We check air temperatures, operating pressures, drainage and every function on the remote before calling the job done.
You'll be shown how to clean the filters, and we suggest a sensible service interval for how hard the unit works.
Each type of space has its own demands, from quiet bedrooms and busy kitchens to rooms full of computers that cannot be allowed to overheat.
ARS works on site across Gauteng: in Johannesburg and its northern suburbs, in Pretoria and Centurion, through the East Rand towns of Ekurhuleni, and out to the West Rand and the Vaal. Each area page below covers the homes and businesses we usually work with there and the aircon issues that come up most.
Whichever page you land on, the same services apply: installation, repairs, servicing, regassing and maintenance for all makes and models, with emergency call-outs 24/7.
Suburbs such as Bryanston, Rivonia, Waterkloof, Irene and Glen Marais have their own pages too. See the full list of service areas.

Some breakdowns can't wait until Monday: a server room warming up, a restaurant kitchen in December, a clinic, or a unit that keeps tripping the power or smells of burning. ARS takes emergency call-outs 24 hours a day, including weekends and public holidays. Our emergency aircon repairs page explains what to do while you wait.

A split aircon is a sealed refrigerant circuit joined together on site, plus an electrical connection and a drain. Shortcuts on any of the three tend to show up later as leaks, water stains or tripping. This is what should happen on every installation, whoever does it.
We install, service and repair units from the brands you'll find in most Gauteng homes and offices. We aren't a dealer or appointed agent for any manufacturer, so if your unit is still under warranty, check the warranty terms before booking a repair.
Inverter wall splits and other Samsung units: servicing, error codes, sensor and board faults, and leak repairs.
LG splits for homes and small offices, from routine servicing and drainage problems to compressor and fan faults.
Daikin wall splits, cassettes and ducted systems in homes and commercial buildings.
Midea units of all sizes: installation, regassing after leak repairs, cleaning and electrical faults.
Also Carrier and most other makes. See all the aircon brands we work on.

An undersized unit runs flat out and still never quite cools the room. An oversized one cools in short bursts, switches off before it has pulled the humidity out of the air, and costs more to buy. Getting the size right matters more than the badge on the front.
Split units are usually rated in BTU per hour, and 9,000, 12,000, 18,000 and 24,000 BTU are common sizes for homes. Before we recommend one, we look at the room size and ceiling height, how much afternoon sun it gets, the insulation, and how many people and computers will be in it. Our guide to choosing the right aircon size explains the thinking.
Dust, pollen and kitchen grease build up on filters and coils, drains clog, and small leaks get worse. A maintenance plan puts servicing on a schedule, so it happens before the summer rush instead of after a breakdown.
Filters, coils, drains, fans and electrical connections cleaned and checked at intervals that match how hard the units work.
Worn fan bearings, weak capacitors and slow leaks often show up during a routine service long before a unit stops completely.

For most homes, once a year is a sensible minimum, ideally before summer. Units that run long hours, sit in dusty or greasy spaces, or cool offices and server rooms usually need a service every three to six months. Cleaning the filters yourself every few weeks in between makes a real difference.
Common causes include dirty filters, a blocked outdoor coil, low refrigerant from a leak, a failed fan motor or capacitor, a faulty sensor, or simply the wrong mode set on the remote. Check the filters and the mode first. If that doesn't help, switch the unit off and book a repair rather than running it hard.
No. An aircon is a sealed system and doesn't use up its refrigerant. If the gas is low, there is a leak somewhere, and that leak should be found and repaired before the system is recharged. Topping up without fixing the leak only buys a little time.
It depends on the room size, ceiling height, sun exposure, insulation and how many people and appliances are in it. Common home sizes are 9,000, 12,000, 18,000 and 24,000 BTU. A site assessment gives you a proper recommendation instead of a guess based on floor area.
Yes. We work on all makes and models, including Samsung, LG, Daikin, Midea and Carrier. If your unit is still under the manufacturer's warranty, check the warranty terms first, because in-warranty repairs may need to go through the manufacturer's appointed service agent.
Usually, yes. Most body corporates and HOAs have rules about where outdoor units may go, how pipes are routed and whether walls may be core drilled. Get written approval before installation day so the unit doesn't have to be moved later.
In most cases it should have a dedicated circuit with the correct breaker and an isolator near the unit. Electrical work must be done by a registered electrician, and the installation should be covered by an electrical Certificate of Compliance.
Yes. Repairs are carried out on site at your premises, whether that's a house, an office, a shop or an industrial building. If a part has to be ordered, we explain what's needed and arrange a follow-up visit to fit it.
They are. Emergency call-outs run 24/7, including weekends and public holidays. Call 0861 995 092 and describe what the unit is doing so we can advise you while a technician is arranged.
Most modern split units are reverse-cycle, which means they can heat as well as cool. On cold Highveld mornings this is usually a more efficient way to warm a room than a plug-in bar or oil heater. If the heating mode has stopped working, that's a repair we handle.
It depends on the size and type of unit, the distance between the indoor and outdoor units, the wall type and access, any electrical work, and for repairs, the fault and the parts needed. Rather than guess over the phone, we assess the job and give you a free, no-obligation quote.
We cover all of Gauteng, including Johannesburg, Sandton, Randburg, Midrand, Pretoria, Centurion, Kempton Park, Benoni, Boksburg, Germiston, Alberton, Krugersdorp, Vereeniging and the suburbs around them.
Gauteng's climate asks a lot of an air conditioner. Summers bring hot afternoons and frequent thunderstorms, winters bring cold, dry nights, and units here often cool in January and heat in July. ARS Air Conditioning looks after that full cycle for homes, businesses and industrial sites across the province: new installations, repairs, servicing, regassing, relocations and planned maintenance, on all makes and models.
Bedrooms, lounges, home offices and granny flats each need something slightly different. We help you choose a unit that suits the room, place the indoor head where it cools without blowing straight onto the bed or couch, and position the outdoor unit where it can breathe and won't annoy the neighbours. Our home aircon services also cover complexes and estates, where body corporate or HOA approval usually comes first.
Offices, shops, restaurants, salons and clinics depend on comfortable staff and customers, and a failed unit is felt immediately. We install, repair and maintain systems in commercial buildings and plan the work around how your premises operate. For sites with several units, commercial air conditioning works best paired with a maintenance schedule rather than call-outs only when something stops.
Warehouses, factories, control rooms and plant rooms often run larger equipment for longer hours, in dustier conditions. Coils clog faster, drains block sooner and electrical connections work harder. Our industrial aircon work focuses on keeping those systems running, with servicing intervals set for the real environment rather than a generic calendar.
An aircon that won't cool, leaks water, shows an error code, ices up, smells or trips the breaker always has a reason. We diagnose it on site by checking pressures, temperatures, fans, sensors and the control board, then explain the repair before doing it. If you're not sure what's wrong, our aircon repair service is the place to start.
A proper service is more than rinsing the filters. It includes cleaning the indoor and outdoor coils, clearing the drain line, checking fan motors and electrical connections, and confirming the unit is cooling the way it should. Regular aircon servicing keeps running costs down and catches small faults before they turn into big ones.
Refrigerant doesn't get used up, so a unit that's low on gas has a leak. The right fix is to find the leak, repair it, pressure test, vacuum the system and then charge it with the correct refrigerant, whether that's R410A, R32 or another type. Older R22 systems are being phased out under the Montreal Protocol, which can make replacement the more sensible option. Read more about regassing done properly.
A good installation starts with sizing and placement and ends with a pressure test, a vacuum, a dedicated electrical circuit and a drain that actually drains. Those steps are what separate a unit that runs quietly for years from one that leaks or trips in its first summer. See how we handle new aircon installations from site visit to handover.
Renovating, moving house or replacing an old unit? A split system can be moved if the refrigerant is pumped down into the outdoor unit first and the system is reconnected, tested and vacuumed at the new spot. Where a unit is old, inefficient or uses R22, replacing it is often the better long-term choice, and we'll talk you through both options.
When power returns after an outage, the surge can damage an aircon's control board. A surge protector on the circuit, and giving the unit a few minutes before switching it back on, are sensible precautions. If your unit is dead or showing a fault after an outage, that's a common repair and worth having checked before you keep trying to restart it.
Most of our calls come from the City of Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni. In the north that includes aircon repairs in Randburg, air conditioning repairs in Sandton offices and apartments, and aircon installation in Fourways estates. Further north, Pretoria and Centurion generally run warmer than Johannesburg in summer, so units there often work harder; see air conditioning services in Pretoria.
On the East Rand we cover towns such as Kempton Park, Benoni and Boksburg, and to the west and south air conditioning services in Roodepoort, Krugersdorp and Vereeniging. Not sure if we reach you? Request a free quote or call 0861 995 092.
